What I’m Obsessed With

Besides my normal (or abnormal) obsessive compulsiveness with everything around me, I also develop tiny obsessions (not in a creepy way) with things.  Anything.  An article of clothing, a house, a car, food, a cause, or a person.  The list goes on.

I’ve decided to write about my obsessions of the moment just to get it out there and see if anyone else shares my interests.  So, let’s take a look at what I’m currently obsessed with……drumroll please………

Cooking!

Ok, so I’m no master chef, but I am obsessed with FoodNetwork and hunting down recipes to try out.  I’ve tried the 30 minute meals by Rachel Ray only to discover that the only way I can actually make a meal in 30 minutes is if someone does all the prepping for me and the cleaning at the end.  30 minutes to cook, sure, if that’s all we’re counting.  All the rest of it?  More like an hour or two. Between prepping, cooking, serving, and cleaning it takes me almost 2 hours.  Then, the meal is devoured in like 15 minutes.  All that work and it’s enjoyed for 15 minutes (assuming it’s actually enjoyable to eat what I’ve cooked).

I love to try to cook Vietnamese dishes for my family (hence the word try), but it’s hard to come close to replicating something my mother in law made.  I still get a general thumbs up, which is good enough for me.  I also love trying to make healthier versions of the meals that stay in the “cook this again” box and I love trying to get the family to eat healthier.

Which brings me to my next obsession……

Kimberly Snyder, Certified Nutritionist.

She is brilliant.  I saw her book when I was in Barnes and Noble and decided to give it a whirl.  I’ve been obsessed ever since.  Not obsessed enough to be able to stick to her program, but enough to be more health conscious.  Although I still make food mistakes and eat things I shouldn’t, I think she’s so amazing.  I found it difficult to keep up with the live foods I had to eat.  I was making food for myself, food for my son Carter (because he’s so picky) and food for everyone else.  It became too much for me and I had to scale back.  So, although I’m not as obsessed as I once was, I’m obsessed enough to change a few things about my eating habits and what I feed my family.

And last but not least…..

Jessica Alba.

I just love her.  I love her style.  I love her hair.  I love her good deeds.

She recently launched The Honest Company, which is an eco-friendly, natural, non-toxic line of baby products.  She gives back to the community and is sincere in her efforts to produce quality products, while decreasing the carbon footprint that many major companies create.  I think she’s truly amazing.

My current obsessions are actually making a positive impact in my life, even if it’s small.  They give me something to do, to think about, to change for the better, to be inspired by, and something to look forward to.

So come on, get obsessed!
